Queens Dont’t Cry: A SOUTHSIDE STORY
Prologue
People often judge women quickly.
They look at your job, where you live, who you love, or the mistakes you’ve made. Then they decide who you are. Rarely do they stop to consider what it took for you to make it this far.
If you’ve never had to choose between paying rent and saving face, it's easy to criticize others' struggles.
South Jamaica, Queens, has raised women who know how to keep moving forward. Women who juggle two lives because one paycheck simply isn’t enough. Women who carry ambition in one hand and shame in the other, hoping no one notices both.
Nia, Rayne, and Talia grew up on the same streets, yet they learned different ways to guard themselves. One believes a new job can wipe away an old life. One mistakes broken promises for love. One has spent years trying to bury a past that still lingers.
They all think the hardest part is getting out.
But they’re wrong.
The real challenge is facing the truth about yourself after years of hiding it. It demands more than just courage. It calls on you to stop pretending.
Before they can build the lives they dream of, they’ll have to decide whether surviving is enough.
South Jamaica, Queens, didn’t sleep.
It waited.
